Ethico | Inspiring sustainable practices to fight the climate crisis
Co-founded by us, Indranil SenGupta and Rabia Tewari, Ethico was born out of our UNEP-felicitated citizen movement Mahim Beach Clean Up, which aimed to rid the Mahim shoreline of marine litter. Moving into a house in Mahim in 2017 brought us face-to-face with the magnitude of oceanic litter strewn across the shoreline. Remembering Robert Swan’s belief ‘The greatest threat to the planet is the belief that someone else will save it’, we went forward to face the trash ourselves and prompted the clean-up that covered a 1000 meter shoreline of the Mahim Beach, that was buried under 3.5 feet of plastic and other junk.
What started with two people only, the Mahim Beach Clean Up was eventually joined by more than 30,000 volunteers from Mumbai and beyond, and reached over a million people by way of social media.
Perceiving the importance of individual impact and living more consciously after having picked up 10,00,000 kilos of trash from the Mahim shoreline, we realised that there are millions of others who are not afraid to make the tiny and sometimes big personal changes that will make a difference. So we consolidated our learnings into the making of Ethico to create sustainable lasting change.
Ethico started with the aim to make conscious living convenient. We are devoted to fostering conversation and initiating action around the climate crisis. By sourcing sustainable and ethically produced food, personal care, homecare goods, upcycled goods, and furniture created from reclaimed wood, we are aiding a plastic free lifestyle, and enabling consumers to question their choices and their impact on the environment. So far, we have reduced plastic production of 18,429 plastic units (and counting!)

Ethico proudly operates a recycling station that has processed over 10,000 kilograms of post-consumer waste over the past two years. Open to everyone, including tourists, this facility offers a convenient and free way to dispose of recyclable materials responsibly. By utilizing our recycling station, you contribute to a cleaner, greener Goa and support our mission to reduce waste.
The collected waste is meticulously sorted by material and sent to a professional waste management company each month. This program has become highly popular among local Siolkars, Goans and serves as an effective tool for raising awareness about consumption and waste generation. It also encourages individuals to minimize the use of environmentally harmful packaging. Join us in making a positive impact on our environment through thoughtful waste management.

The Recycling Station is an initiative for the community that has so far been sustained entirely by us. As we take our vision forward, we need your support to continue sustaining our endeavour for the community. We want the station to be accessible to all, free of cost but we cannot do this alone and need your help. Your contribution will help us recycle the waste that we collect week after week. Any and every contribution (however big or small) will encourage us to keep at our efforts. Please make a contribution here. Or contribute using the following GPay UPI ID: rabia.tewari@okhdfcbank
